On June 06, 2022, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi announced the launch of ‘The Jan Samarth Platform. The PM took to Twitter to address the launch of the new initiative. As outlined in a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office on Twitter, Jan Samarth Platform is a national digital portal for availing credit-linked government initiatives.
During the inauguration iconic week celebrations held in the MOFA and MCA (Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs), PM Narendra Modi announced this initiative to easily apply for business loans under four major broad loan categories.
What is Jan Samarth Portal?
Jan Samarth Portal is a digitalized new-age initiative by the Government of India. It is an online unique single platform that links thirteen credit-linked government schemes. As highlighted on the official website of the Jan Samarth Portal – https://www.jansamarth.in/home
“The core objective of the scheme is to promote inclusive growth and development of various sectors by guiding and providing them with the right of Government benefits through simple and digital processes.”

Jan Samarth portal, a one-of-a-kind platform, has integrated UIDAI, CBDT, NSDL, LGD, and other services with its platform. As a result of these integrations, Member Lending Institutes (MLIs) and beneficiaries will have access to digital data that will be authenticated, reducing hassles. JanSamarth Portal’s automated rules engine allows beneficiaries to select options offered by an array of MLIS onboarded at the portal.

There are already four loan types, with different schemes listed under each. Types of Loan Categories in Jan Samarth Portal
As of now, there are four main loan categories under which different credit-linked government schemes are stated. The loan categories are as follows:
Business Loan
A beneficiary can avail of this category for expansion and new business or activity under an existing business. Different schemes under this category provide various benefits in classification based on gender, type of business, and economic sector. As of now, six schemes are enlisted under this major business loan category:

- Weaver Mudra Scheme (WMS)

Livelihood Loan
Only one scheme ( Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM)) is currently enrolled under this loan category. The primary focus for facilitating the loan is to reduce poverty by catering financial assistance to the poor, especially women, enabling them to avail themselves of an extensive array of financial institutions or credit scheme options.
Agri-Infrastructure Loan
This section of credit schemes can be availed for post-harvest maintenance and agriculture consulting. Loans are granted to promote the development of the agricultural infrastructure of the economy; for instance, funds are provided for the construction of clinics and commercial centers related to agricultural activities.
Three schemes have been made available under this category:
- Agri Clinics and Agri-Business Centers Scheme (ACABC)
- Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure (AMI)
- Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)
Education Loan
Loans are granted for pursuing studies in India or even outside India. The funds are granted for almost all courses to impart quality education among the nation, especially to the poor.

- Dr. Ambedkar Central Sector Scheme
